☆ Amazon's cashierless checkout is coming to hospitals

Amazon is pitching its cashierless checkout technology to hospitals and other health-care facilities. Hospital visitors will also be able to shop at JWO-enabled stores using credit cards and debit cards, as well as mobile wallets. Amazon's JWO technology allows shoppers to enter a store by scanning an app and exit without needing to stand in a checkout line. Cameras and sensors track what items shoppers select and charge them when they leave. It also sells the technology to third-party retailers in airports, college campuses, stadiums and theme parks, among other venues.

London CNN —Wild beavers have returned to London’s Ealing district after an absence of 400 years. A family of five Eurasian beavers – a breeding pair and their three offspring – were transported from Scotland and released today at the Paradise Fields wetlands area, in Ealing, west London. The Ealing Beaver Project hopes the beavers can help reduce the risk of flooding, as well as engaging people in nature. “It’s good for humans, it’s good for nature, it’s good for our city.”His Rewild London Fund provided almost £40,000 ($49,000) in funding for the project. In March 2022, beavers were released in Enfield, north London, and last month it was announced that a baby beaver had been born there, the first beaver birth in London for hundreds of years.

Amazon on Tuesday announced a new version of its cashierless checkout system, allowing customers to buy clothing without having to wait in line. The updated version of the company's Just Walk Out system incorporates radio-frequency identification, or RFID, technology, and each item in a store will feature an RFID tag. Avery Dennison, a materials science and digital identification company, built the RFID technology, according to Amazon. If retailers adopt the technology, it could mark a significant expansion for Amazon's Just Walk Out system.

Footage of an ambulance navigating around wooden roadblocks during a “low traffic neighbourhood” (LTN) trial in Ealing, West London, is from 2021 but is being shared online as if new. “This footage is of a low traffic neighbourhood scheme that was removed in May 2021, so it’s not contemporaneous footage,” an Ealing Council spokesperson told Reuters. The area of Ealing is identifiable by visible road signs indicating the area is a controlled parking area in the area called “Zone GG” (here). Reuters previously addressed misleading narratives about a traffic filter scheme in Oxford, including that it is a “climate lockdown” here and here . The video of a London Ambulance rerouting around traffic filters is not new but was filmed during a low traffic neighbourhood trial in Ealing, which finished in 2021.

CNN —Former rugby player Levi Davis has been reported missing for over a week, his former club said in an appeal for any information pertaining to his whereabouts. Bath Rugby Club issued an appeal Sunday for information about Davis, who they say was last seen in a pub in Barcelona, Spain, on October 29, 2022, on its Twitter account. The appeal described Davis as 5-foot-9 (176cm) and said that anyone with information could email findlevidavis@gmail.com. “If anyone has seen or heard from Levi Davis in the last two weeks could you please drop me a message asap. In a statement sent to CNN, the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it was “providing consular support to the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain.”
